How the Mixture Works
This homemade spray acts primarily as a contact herbicide.
After being sprayed directly onto leaves and stems, weeds often begin to wilt and dry within hours, particularly during warm, sunny weather.
Because the solution mainly affects above-ground growth, perennial weeds with extensive root systems may survive and produce new shoots later.
Repeated applications may gradually weaken these plants over time.
How to Prepare the Mixture
Step 1: Pour 300 ml of water into a container.
Step 2: Add the citric acid, white vinegar, salt, and liquid dish soap.
Step 3: Stir thoroughly until well combined.
Step 4: Let the mixture sit for several hours so the ingredients dissolve completely.
Step 5: If necessary, strain the solution through a fine sieve or cloth.
Step 6: Add the remaining 1 liter of water and stir again.
Step 7: Transfer the finished solution into a spray bottle or garden sprayer.
Best Conditions for Application
For best results:
• Apply during warm, sunny weather.
• Spray on calm days to prevent drift.
• Target only the weed leaves.
• Avoid spraying before rain.
Although this spray can be very effective, one ingredient requires particular care because its effects can remain in the soil long after the weeds have disappeared.
