Bleach stains on your clothes? Don’t throw them away: here’s a possible solution.

How to proceed safely

1. Preliminary rinse (essential)

Rinse the affected area under cold or lukewarm running water for at least 2 minutes , gently rubbing the fabric between your fingers to remove any bleach residue.

Next, remove excess water by gently patting or wringing the garment, without twisting it.

2. Prepare your work area

  • Work in a well-ventilated environment, with a window open.
  • Lay the garment on a clean towel.

3. Prepare the alcohol

Pour about 5 ml (1 teaspoon) of clear alcohol into a small container.

Use a cotton ball or q-tip.

4. Apply carefully

Moisten the cotton ball with 2–3 ml of alcohol. It should be damp, but not dripping.

Gently dab the discolored area for 30–60 seconds , avoiding rubbing.

Exposure time

Leave on for 2 minutes , then immediately rinse the area with clean water for 1 minute .

If the stain appears slightly less evident but is still visible, you can repeat the process just once , using another 2–3 ml of alcohol.

Wash your head

Once finished, immediately wash the garment in the washing machine following the instructions on the label and using your normal detergent.

Important warnings

  • Do not use more than 10 ml of alcohol per item .
  • Never use this method on wool, silk, viscose or other delicate fabrics.
  • Always rinse the garment thoroughly before applying alcohol.
  • Never mix bleach and alcohol. Combining them can create hazardous substances. Make sure all bleach residue is completely removed before attempting this method.
  • This process does not restore the original color . At best, it can make the discoloration less noticeable, especially on dark-colored fabrics.

If the bleach stain remains visible, you can consider other solutions, such as dyeing the fabric, using a fabric marker in the appropriate color, or customizing the garment with embroidery, decorative patches, or specific fabric paints.
